Egyptologist Dr. Daniel Jackson is offered the chance of "his" lifetime by a mysterious woman he meets in the pouring rain after a disappointing lecture. The "chance" turns out to be the deciphering of symbols on what appears to be an ancient Egyptian object called Stargate, a portal through which people can be transported to another civilization. The Stargate is being held in secret at an Air Force base, where no-nonsense Colonel Jack O'Neil will eventually lead the trip through the Stargate. However, unbeknownst to the space travelers, is what is in store for them on the other side.
